Draenor Engineering Level 1 – 700

  1. Loot the Burned-out Hand Cannon (Horde) or Gnomish Location Trasponder (Alliance).
  2. Complete the quests – 3 for Horde and 2 for Alliance.
  3. You will now have Draenor Engineering and Garrison Blueprint: Engineering Works, Level 1.
    • Draenor Engineering will upgrade your max Engineering skill to 700 and teach you to make Secrets of Draenor Engineering (Engineering Works currency).
    • The Engineering Works Blueprints enables you to build an Engineering Works in your Garrison.

*Another option for Engineering is to buy Draenor Engineering in Warspear or Stormshield for 100g. This will increase your max Engineering skill to 700 but it will not provide the Garrison Blueprint to build your own Engineering Works.

Recipes to Level from 1 – 600

Draenor Engineering provides the Gearspring Parts recipe as well as basic Engineering recipes that give 1 skill point each up to level 600. If you’re new to Engineering and 90+ then you can create any of the recipes below over and over until you hit 600 in Engineering.

Recipes to Level from 600 – 700

We suggest doing the following in order because after level 628 the Stealthman only provides 1 skill point:

  1. Create 7 Stealthman 54. This recipe uses the least mats = 28 skill points.
  2. Create 1 Secrets of Draenor Engineering per day = 25 skill points.
  3. Create 25 Gearspring Parts using work orders and the recipe every day = 25 skill points.
  4. *Create 5 Mechanical Scorpids

*For these remaining levels you will need to use 1 Secrets of Draenor Engineering and use it to buy the recipe at the Engineering Works. The most cost effective recipe is the Mechanical Scorpid and it grants 5 skill points so you should only need to create about 5. You can also choose to create anything else you might want for the last few levels.

Garrison Building: Engineering Works

  • Level 1 allows the production of Engineering items and 7 work orders.
  • Level 2 allows followers with the Engineering trait to work there, providing a bonus and doubles work order production to 14.
  • Level 3 allows 21 work orders.

Work Orders convert 2 True Iron Ore and 2 Blackrock Ore to 1 Gearspring Parts in 4 hours. This increases to 2 if you have a follower in your Engineering Works.

See our Followers with Profession Traits page for info on where to get the followers you need.

i found myself out of a certain material without getting to the point where the guide says, just too inaccurate to be useful

Please let us know where you ran into trouble so we can update this guide. The material list is an approximate list because the proc rate when making yellow and green items is not always exact. If you let us know which mats you were short on, we will update. Thank you for commenting!

At 300 skill. You have us make 15 handful of bolts, then make us use 5, and then you tell us to use 20 when we only have 10.

By pwn

Correct, you can either create or purchase the remaining 10 needed and the amount listed in the "approximate material" section includes the Fel Iron needed if you do decide to make them. We did this because after level 310, Fel Iron Bolts no longer provide any xp so buying them off the AH might be a better choice in some instances (depending on cost).

Safety Catch Removal Kit is yellow at 470 and does not provide +5.

While following this in patch 5.4.8 the Safety Catch Removal Kit turns yellow at 470 and green at 473 meaning that the suggested amount of required materials is way off and this recipe probably isn't the best choice for 470 to 475. The High-Powered Bolt Gun however rewards 5 skill points at 470 and requires about the same amount of materials. -2 Handful of Obsidium Bolts +4 Electrified Ether.

Also, while following this in patch 5.4.8 the Thermal Anvil turns yellow at 575, meaning you will need to make 15 of them not 5 to get to 595. Looking at the other recipes available at this level from the trainer this is still best one to use you will just need 90 Ghost Iron bolts and 120 High-Explosive Gunpowder.
