This Gw2 Guardian Guide journeys through the basics to advanced concepts in builds, spells, rotations, traits, sigils, gems, runes, stat priority and more. We wanted to make a super Gw2 Guardian Guide.
You can start with no prior knowledge of this Gw2 profession as well as perfect your game play with the finer aspects.

Adapt to How You Like to Play
As opposed to other mmos where there is a dedicated tank, heals and damage, Guild Wars 2 negates this trinity and allows you to pretty much do as you want. Depending on how you feel like playing is how you customize your build.
Within each of these following categories we help you specialize in tanking, farming, cc, heals and pure dps.
Attribute Overview
There are two schools of thought when it comes to this section stacking precision or stacking condition. First lets go over some of the terms and what them really mean.
| Condition Damage | @ level 80 = 328 per second. Increase this stat by this formula 8 + (4 * Level) + (0.25 * Condition Damage) |
| Condition Duration | Conditions tick every second so getting an extra tick would help on long fights. |
| Critical Damage | Default 1.5X increasing this stat would add to the 1.5. Adding to this .5 to this stat you would crit for 2x |
| Toughness | Increases your armor 1 point = 1 armor |
| Vitality | Increases your health 1 point = 10 hit points |
| Power | Increased direct damage only |
| Precision | Increases your chance to get a Critical Hit. @ level 80 it takes about 20 to get 1% Crit chance |
| Attunement Recharge Rate | Decreases the CD to switch to an attunement. Increased by Archana Traits |
Attribute Priority
Depending on how you like to play there are some stats you should stack in order of importance.
Damage we included 2 styles (Dot vs. Nuke). Dot just means condition based builds where you focus on damage over time and some kiting around. Nuke refers to blowing things up as fast and hard as possible with a few shots and kiting while on cooldown.
Tank refers to heavy armored, high hit point characters that can have some crowd control and moderate damage.
Healer is focused on helping weaken the enemy and help people get their health back up.
Farming specializes on AOE (Area of Effect) damage so you can kill many foes in short periods of time. You want to be able to tag as many things as possible to increase the amount of loot you get.
| Damage (Dots) | Condition Damage, Condition Duration, Power, Precision |
| Damage (Nuke) | Power, Precision, Condition Damage, Condition Duration |
| Tank | Vitality, Toughness, Boon Duration, Condition Duration, Condition Damage |
| Heal/Support | Boon Duration, Healing Power, Condition Duration, Power |
| Farmer | Power, Precision, Condition Damage, Condition Duration |
Keybinding
Gw2 allows you to re-map your keys so you can hit spells using your keyboard or buttons on your mouse. This is essential considering you will improve your performance greatly. In order to move around you are stuck using the WASD keys which means your hand is not able to touch the 1 through – keys or F1 – F12 keys easily unless you are crazy. So you can re-map a few keys to common spells that are around the WASD keys.
TIP-Circle Strafe: If you use the A or D keys to turn you are called a ‘keyboard turner’ and that holds a negative connotation in the game world. It will slow you down and you will get completely beaten up when things run circles around and through you. To alleviate this mess learn to circle strafe.
Now you can actually run circles around your opponents by pressing A and right mouse button and dragging your mouse right. Likewise you can do the opposite direction by pressing D and right mouse button and dragging your mouse. Once you get the hang of it you will increase your PVP combat and you will receive less damage from attacking mobs.
You should be able to get to all your spells easily when running in a circle; but lets face it, you have 4 attunements, 4 major spells and 4 extra spells totalling 16 total buttons around the WASD keys. How is this even possible? The answer is a mouse.
Recommended Hardware for Improved Gameplay
We personally use a Razer Naga because it has a ton of buttons allowing you to not have to map a single key to your keyboard (except the strafe keys). We prefer the quality of the mouse, braided cord, gold leads and the buttons accessible from your thumb. Below is an affiliate link from Amazon for this masterpiece of a mouse.
We have used this mouse extensively and are completely in love with it. We consider it the best hardware purchase in 5 years. It takes no time or brains to set this up and works with every game you will play. It has 17 total buttons and with modifiers like alt, shift and control you can get over 50 total spells mapped easily while running circles around your opponents.
