This Gw2 Chef Guide 1 – 400 is not the average guide. We don’t suggest farming or buying tons of items, because there is a more efficient way in this Gw2 Chef Leveling Guide.

Gw2 Chef Cooking Leveling Guide 1- 25

First a Few Chef Tips

a. Mise en place (MEEZ ahn plahs)

It’s a French term for having all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start cooking. This means, start off by preparing your salt and pepper and piles of cinnamon and sugar and get all the mats in your bags. Try to get only the ones you need in your bags because the discovery screen may make you attempt to create something of lower level.

b. Make what you need

Some recipes just take Sugar and Salt so don’t mix them all.

c. The rule of 13

On average it takes 13 discoveries to level a profession any given 25 levels. Discovering recipes yields an average of 2 levels per discovery with 12 usually being the minimum it can happen in and maximum it may take 15.

  1. Hi, where is 175~400? thank you

    • Will be updating it tonight. **We had to do it a few times to get it perfect.

    • look forward to it, thank you~!

  2. Discovery is cheaper than buying vendor mats + karma mats or?

    • Discovery is cheaper than building items in bulk, building components in bulk, building items, or building components because it yields more xp and takes much less time. You will need to buy some items from multiple sources such as karma mats, vendor mats, TP mats, etc. but as opposed to creating 1 recipe several times costing tremendous amounts of mats, you only have to discover a few recipes for each 25 levels. See the math behind this at our Gw2 Crafting Formulas page.

  4. Howdy,

I know it is not a constant, however I believe if may help even more to craft on Friday before WvW reset as your world will have it’s highest Artisan bonus. Just a way to help level up even faster…maybe, unless I am wrong about how it works.

    Anvil Rock

  5. Excellent guide! I just got 400 cooking and it only took about 5g from 1-400.

  6. Is this guide still relevant or has everything been patched/nerfed already?

    • You can see the below comment that ZMOT7S ran it yesterday for ~5g. I believe it is still very accurate :)

  7. Although the maths is correct on the formulae page, personally I found it much, much quicker and easier just to make ~25 versions of the same recipe per block of 25. A lot of the materials listed on here are no longer sold from Karma merchants, and it takes a lot of inventory space and management to do it this way. Instead, I would advise finding the cheapest recipe at each +25 level point (i.e. at level 200, 225, 250 etc) and just make it approx. 25 times. I probably spent more on teleports for my alts to go gather account bound items than I did on materials – I would say it cost me about 1G max to level to 400, and all told took me about 3-4 hours (including material gathering). I did have some materials from alts, primarily butter and peppercorns, but didn’t use much of the other stuff I had.

  8. I’m stuck at lvl zero, half of the ingredients are soulbound on aquire, am I supposed to re-explore the entire world for such crap as loaf of bread? 0.o

    • Most of the cooking ingredients come from vendors; Loaf of Bread you can craft once you discover the recipe. There are Master Chefs next to each station, if you ask they have a lot of ingredients to sell. Or you could buy ingredients from the trading post.

  9. This is a useless guide, it is confusing and does not tell you what materials to use to discover the recipes. On top of that,it tells you to obtain 2 loaf of bread on level 1-25 when in fact loaf of bread is made in level 50 of chef and cannot be used in level 1-25 chef

  10. 30-Jun-2013

Hi people, not sure how old this page is, but it seems out of date. Many of the ingredients here that are flagged for a certain level are not usable at that level :( Perhaps some adjustments need to be made? I’ve only been playing GW2 for a month or so, and not sure if the crafting for chef has been changed since this was compiled.

    Cheers

    • Thank you so much for making us aware of this. We will be reviewing this guide to ensure all is correct and up to date. Each ingredient should be available for purchase to discover the suggested recipes; but, again we will confirm and update where needed. If you have any suggestions or further comments please feel free to let us know!

  11. I cannot seem to make the Bowl of Sauteed Carrots . . .

    08-09-2013

  12. Just kidding.

That’s what I get for not playing for six months. It’s too bad I can’t delete my own comments.

  13. 2014-02-22: Bowl of Sage Stuffing is not discoverable. It’s already on the list of known recipes and I just hit 100.

    • Try discovering “Bowl of Meat and Bean Chili” with 1 Kidney Bean, 1 Jar of Tomato Sauce, 1 Slab of Red Meat and 1 Pile of Chili Seasoning. We just updated the guide with this recipe because the Bowl of Sage Stuffing is now auto-learned. Thank you!
